This weekend we had a break from working at the clinic and went on a trip. We travelled around northern Romania (the Moldova/Bucovina regions) and went to some of the painted monasteries, churches, a black pottery workshop, and some different villages. We took a beautiful drive over a mountain and it started to snow as we were going up. The second day we were in Iasi (pronounced yash) and we looked at the university, walked around the streets, viewed pieces of a couple orthodox church services, and went to the mall. We tried to go to the Palace of Culture, but when we entered we found out that it was actually close for the next FIVE years for reconstruction. We stayed at two really nice hotels, one that looked like a fairy tale house in the mountains, and the other in the city of Iasi which had a great restaurant. The trip involved a ton of driving, but the driving was one of my favorite parts because you could look out the window and see all the different villages and towns. Seeing some of the other cities helped us to see how poverty stricken Barlad really is. Many of the places we went were hard to photograph due to the weather and the fact that churches were in service, but I put some internet pictures of where we went. We missed the babies of the clinic over the weekend, and are excited to get back to them tomorrow morning.
