A Frustrating Day

When we arrived at the clinic this morning a new isolation was in place. Was it for a new baby? No. Was it for a child on antibiotics? No. Was it for a sick child? NO, it was for the healthy children? It was decided that since there were more sick children than healthy children, the healthy children should be isolated to their beds and the sick children should have the run of the playrooms. I found this very frustrating. If the kids were so sick that they couldn't be around the others, then they should have been in bed. There is no need to keep perfectly healthy children in bed all day. I ended up having to put half of my sick kids back to bed because they were so fussy. Then I brought the rest, mostly the older non-mobiles, into the mobile room. The older kids were fairly fussy as well, and of course they were, they're sick! Luckily the "healthy kids" took it like champs, and we are hoping this ridiculousness will be put to a stop soon! Tomorrow we plan to take the healthy kids outside if this isolation continues. When we went back in the afternoon I spent some time with Nicoleta, fed her, then went to spend time with Raul. Dan had said he was fussy in the morning, and he continued to be fussy in the afternoon. He ate his bottle well, but due to sores in his mouth and on his lips he was bleeding the whole time. Then I changed his diaper, the first poopy one I've seen on him, and of course, to continue my frustrating day, there were no wipes or extra diapers to wipe with! Eventually I found a cloth to wipe with and then we cuddled and danced for a while until it was time to go. We went with Mihaela, Dan, and Delia to the Italian restaurant for dinner, which was, luckily, delicious as always!

Isolating healthy children...that's a new one! Sounds like a rough day for the volunteers and the kids. Hope tomorrow is better.
