Day Fourty-One (Last Day At The Clinic)

Today was a good, but sad day. This morning the kids were happier than the last few days. We were very happy to have Cristi and Sammy back today! I went in to visit Sammy (don’t worry he didn’t forget how to pull hair!) in the mobile room minutes before they discovered he had come back from the hospital with chicken pox. They moved him into the back bedroom where no children had been living to try to isolate it, although all the kids (including Sammy) have been vaccinated. He seemed very bored back there, but whenever we brought him toys he just threw them across the room. Hopefully no one else will get chicken pox! The kids ate their bottles well today, and baby Andreea even got a cereal bottle with the big kids! We took turns visiting the mobiles, non-mobiles, isolation room, and the new isolation room (Sammy’s room).

After a quick lunch at the hotel we headed back to the clinic for a party with the aides. We took pictures, ate snacks, and laughed together. The big kids were awake/ starting to wake up, so Maiastra, Alexandra, Ionella and Ioana got to join the party for a while. They were even allowed to eat some of the snacks and drink a few sips of orange soda! After the party we brought all the kids to the playrooms. A few minutes later, Michelle ran into our room saying there was a new baby. Of course we all ran in to visit him, and found out that he wasn’t new to the clinic, just new to us. He has stayed there for a week in November before leaving for emergency heart surgery, and is finally back. He is very cute, and looks a ton like Alexandru used to. After some very cute but teary goodbyes, we headed back to the hotel. It was so hard to say goodbye to the kids, but we know they are in good hands! Tomorrow morning we will be heading to the train station early, then spending part of the day in Bucharest before flying home.

"New" Baby: Ion

Ion is sixteen months old, and spent a week at the clinic in November. He left for emergency heart surgery, which he had in December, and he is finally back! He still has bandages on his chest, but his stitches are out, and in a couple weeks he will be able to go into the playroom. We all think that he looks a lot like Alexandru did last year!

Day Fourty

Paula had left for the doctor by the time we got there this morning, but I was able to say goodbye to her last night, luckily. The babies were still pretty fussy today, but they were a little happier than the last couple days. Baby Andreea is able to sit up on her own now; not for a long time, but for a while, and she’s not even four months old! I also weighed most of our babies this morning, and almost all of them are within two pounds of each other (Alina: 10.02, Ema: 13.5, Andreea: 13.76, Marius: 14.02, and Mihaela: 15.4). Alina was only nine pounds a couple weeks ago, she’s gaining weight pretty fast even though she doesn’t eat much. We found out after lunch that Cristi and Sammy will be back tonight! That means we will get to see them tomorrow for our last day, which is very exciting! This afternoon the babies were happier, and they all did pretty well with their bottles, but we stayed inside because it was cloudy and a bit chillier than the past couple days. Alina did a little fashion show for the group in a dress Jane had sent for the summer, but then we had to put her back in a sleeper because the aides thought she would get cold. Tonight we are going out to a final dinner in Barlad.
